Tuesday, October 19, 2004Some Vision and some Links I am just about recovering from Mark Mumford and Steve Perkins visit to us last week. They have been around and talked to everyone and are processing what they have heard and seen. It seems overall that it is encouraging news, we are building community and are moving forward together. It was my hope that their visit would prove to be a time of transition for us as a community 2 years in. Based on early feedback I think that will prove to be the case. The reason I started this ramble was because of a reinteration in my heart that we should build multiple churches reaching multiple people groups - whether that be in homes, cafes or through kid's clubs. I believe part of this transition will be the new release of energies, the new release of initiatives and the new release of risk-taking in mission. That is in addition to clear support structures to make those viable. Then I suddenly realise that transition times can be quite hard work. God help us!! If you are interested you may like to know that my paper on incarnational mission is now online at organicchurch: Incarnational Mission. Over there you will find some other things I have written [mostly while studying at KBCTC], like The role of the Church Leader in Culture, Don't you just read it?; and Two worlds collide. Also you may be interested in reading the latest update from Vineyard Central, [a community of Home Churches] as they continue their journey. It is far too long, but the first couple of pages are interesting!! I should probably clarify that I haven't looked at their stuff much and therefore they haven't been much of an influence on where we are at [i didn't even get our subtitle from them, honest!!]. Wednesday, October 13, 2004Catholics go Neon My mum and dad have just come back from a trip to India. They spotted this as they were driving around Cochin - a Catholic church with a severe neon fix. Talk about a jazzed up church building frontage! I have it as a movie file and it is a bit more 'flashy' that way!!! Posted by: Mark | 8:07 am |
Tuesday, October 12, 2004Jesus loves Sports I am sure there are som important things that I should be posting here, but the trouble is that serious things take a little more time and brain power!! As it is, if you are short of Christmas pressie ideas, you amy want to try here: Jesus Sport Statues! Below is my favourite, which is yours? Jesus is looking intently at the ball, he is going for goal, "get behind me you pesky kids" [plus there is no way he is gonna be nutmegged with that attire!!]. Posted by: Mark | 1:38 pm |

Monday, October 04, 2004Change the world for a fiver! I love the idea of this book: change the world for a fiver. The idea that people doing lots of small positive things in the world, is a world chinging is a fantastic empowering idea. It is inspiring. It somehw gives some personmal joy to be making a difference, even if it is small and seemingly imperceptable. It kinda recalls the idea that it is "more blessed to give than to receive". And it is that idea that makes the book so radical and so subversive - because it is counter-cultural!! The idea of looking beyond oneself to the world around you is a world changing idea becasue it counters the self-serving, consumerism that destroys the world and pervades Western culture. So what are some of the ideas? well ... 1. Learn to be friendly in another language 2. Decline plastic carrier bags wherever possible 3. Have more meals together 4. Use both sides of every piece of paper 5. Always put your lose change in a charity tin 6. Turn off the tap whilst cleaning your teeth 7. Read a story with a child 8. Use a mug - not a disposable cup 9. Register as an organ donor 10. Recycle your books Just keep that smile that appeared on your face as you read those. and let your imagination run away with you ... then do it ... then imagine a whole community of people doing some of these things ... then think of your church doing those things.
