Thursday, October 30, 2003Hey everybody, Big Col here! Well I was pressured into making a post by Mark, so here we go. I have been thinking lots about worship over the past couple of weeks and how our worship together aids me when not in a meeting environment. I have found the last few home churches helpful to just reflect on my own worship, and what it is that worship is about, The main thing that i have come away with is worship is in responce to something ( maybe evan someone ) I have really enjoyed our look at creation and am thankfull to Adrian who taught me how to distinguish a sun rise from a sunset in a still photo (will pass this info onto Jade, to help with her uni course on photography ) well there u go ( will keep Mark off my back for a few days ) let me know what u think by hitting comments and will look forward to reading your thoughts, comments or suggestions soon. Spiritual Formation What's that about? I know it sounds a fancy phrase. But the idea of being transformed into the image of Christ stands foundational to our life as Jesus Followers. Although a little obscure, Gal 4:19 "I am in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you" reflects the centrality to Paul's passion for the fledgling church to become Christ-like in their character. It represents purpose and progression in their walk. It's ambiguity with regards with changes them also seems to assume that it is God's work, and the context of the passage assumes that they join in the process - it is not something done to you as it is something that you allow to happen. I think the classic Faith-Works dichotomy could get int he way a little here because that can make us passive. I think that we need to be active participants in God's work in our lives, and, actually, it the world. Let's reflect an intentionality about pursuing Jesus. What does that mean for Spiritual Formation? Hmmmmm....... Posted by: Mark | 4:05 pm |
Monday, October 27, 2003Well, the baptisms happened! And what a great time was had by all. The girlies and boy did a great job sharing their stories (even with ear twiddling etc!). I was really pleased with how it all went, and just a fantastic priviledge to be involved. Highlights: 1) Adrian's drumming in Blessed Be the Name - quite cool! 2) Mark R's "fiver in magazine" illustration and the constant referal to wine!! 3) Emily and Mica's song - some say it is singable for a congregation. Shall we give it a go? 4) Mark Hill ("The Warrior") ducking his head to avoid major injury! 5) Hephzibah.... 6) Katherine getting water on her face! 7) Colin's haircut! Drop some comments... Monday, October 20, 2003Worship Good discussions over the last couple of weeks about worship. I think when it comes to worship in the Home Church, two particular issues need ot be addressed: 1) Worship is anything we do in response to God. So, how is worship being provoked today? What about who God is or what he has done are we remembering, being drawn to etc. 2) Worship can be fostered in a right atmosphere. A worshipful attitude, ambiance etc can really help the woprshipful response to be brought into fulfillment. These two aspects can be helped in many and varied ways! Posted by: Mark | 4:14 pm |
