Thursday, October 30, 2003Spiritual Formation What's that about? I know it sounds a fancy phrase. But the idea of being transformed into the image of Christ stands foundational to our life as Jesus Followers. Although a little obscure, Gal 4:19 "I am in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you" reflects the centrality to Paul's passion for the fledgling church to become Christ-like in their character. It represents purpose and progression in their walk. It's ambiguity with regards with changes them also seems to assume that it is God's work, and the context of the passage assumes that they join in the process - it is not something done to you as it is something that you allow to happen. I think the classic Faith-Works dichotomy could get int he way a little here because that can make us passive. I think that we need to be active participants in God's work in our lives, and, actually, it the world. Let's reflect an intentionality about pursuing Jesus. What does that mean for Spiritual Formation? Hmmmmm....... Posted by: Mark | 4:05 pm |
