Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Distinct lack of blogging recently has meant I have not posted about this Christmas film event. Very slack, sorry! Not that I have now seen it or anything, but the event is worth comment. It is clear that this is a Christmas film [in the world where it is always winter but not Christmas] and no doubt will remain so for years to come. Discussions are raging about to what extent this is a Christian Story being told. With people from both sides of the fence fighting to make the film their own. I always loved the stories, although I do remember finding them scary. With the current enthusiasm for Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, and the Harry Potter series and now Narnia I have been thinking recently "what is the role of Fantasy". I think it feeds our imaginations with images that aren't real, which enable the telling of stories which begin to help us make sense of our world and imagine new possibilities. The future is a battle for our imaginations. We cannot make real something that we haven't first imagined...
