Thursday, May 27, 2004Jesus Following On Sunday 6th June I am going to be preaching a little on "Making Disiples", and we as a community can work together to spur each other on to greater Jesus-likeness. Some general thoughts: what does discipleship mean? what characteristics about Jesus discipels made them good and bad disciples and what can we learn? What practical things can we do in our community to encourage bigger and better discipleship? What things help us in our personal discipleship? Which individuals have most helped us in our discipleship? who are you helping in their discipleship? So I want some input. This is called community preaching. You let me know what you think and my preach helps us to draw the whole community into the conversation. If you have read this leave a relevant comment ... doesn't matter what ... go on - just do it! Wednesday, May 26, 2004The Future Belongs ... I was trying to think of something to write that would help those in end of year exams right now. Maybe a little exam technique, maybe deep breathing, maybe a 'commit your ways to the Lord and he will bless and guide you' exhortation, maybe a little on 'don't stress, just do your best'. But none of those flowed. Instead why not take 10 minutes out and read these two halves of Bono's commencement speech for the University fo Pennsylvania. Funny, ironic, risque [you'd be disappointed if it wasn't!], but hugely inspiring. By part two he is in the zone. Brilliant stuff. Read it. Live it. Let it inspire you life!! Thursday, May 13, 2004Where is spirituality? This is a very interesting article mentioning some talks given at the Christian Resources Exhibition [where the Nightingales are today and tomorrow]. It is amazing the clarity of sound that is coming out from all angles - that church must move to the people and not wait for the people to come along on a Sunday morning. Check this out: "The address provided an honest and frank assessment of why traditional Sunday worship is seen by many as outdated and irrelevant and yet the interest in spirituality, new-age faith and the occult has never been greater." Question: How do we as church provide environments in which people feel that they can explore Christian Spirituality? [Oh and this one on the same site has provoked some interesting questions] Posted by: Mark | 2:00 pm |
Tuesday, May 11, 2004Worship Songs This article is fascinating. It is a fairly in-depth take on contepmporary worship songs with a strong challenge to bring about change. The basic thrust of the srticle I really love, on so many levels. But the reality for change is way beyond me. Read it, it reflect on it. I believe that words and music, that are focussed on in this article, are not the only art forms that can bring forth indigenous worship. What creative talents has God given you? Writing [prose, poetry], painting, drawing, dance [that might need some clarification in our settings!!], speaking, acting [?up?], passion, prayer, ... You might get the idea, but the possibilities are far more than I can imagine [that you see is not my area of creativity!!]. Read the article, tell us what you think, tell me what you are gifted with... Posted by: Mark | 8:17 am |
Monday, May 10, 2004New News News I am wondering why this is so upsetting. Maybe it is the tie to my childhood? Maybe it is my hidden love for tortoises? Maybe it is that already I can't picture his face in my mind's eye when I close my eyes? I think I need one of those postcards... Posted by: Mark | 4:09 pm |
